Hi Electra -
The metal is 1/8" cold rolled steel. It is untreated and i painted it with thick white enamel. I got it cut at our local sheet metal shop; however, I have seen 12x12 sheets of similar metal at places like Home Depot, believe it or not. I had the hole professionally drilled. I am about to release plans for how to build a similar plate, I will announce them on the School of Cymatics when ready. Thanks for your question!
